The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway have announced that a last-minute problem has arisen with Baldwin ‘590’ which has left insufficient time to give the locomotive the attention it requires ahead of the ‘WHR100’ event.

A joint project ‘Wales on Rails’ (WOR), led by Great Little Trains of Wales (GLTW) and supported by Transport for Wales and the Community Rail Partnerships (CRP) in Wales and the borders has won at The Community Rail Awards in the tourism and leisure category.

Following today’s change to Covid restrictions in Wales, we are now working towards our plan to further open up access to our railway.

A new tourism project called ‘Wales on Rails’ has been launched to encourage more people to travel around Wales sustainably using the national rail network, heritage railways and buses.

Bachmann Europe have just announced new products to be introduced this winter. Pride of place (OK, we’re slightly biased here) is the launch of models of Ffestiniog Railway Double Fairlies in 009 scale.

The Festiniog and Welsh Highland Railways have staged “Kid’s Week” for many years; we have now renamed it “Young Volunteers Training Week”.

Tywyn based Talyllyn Railway has announced that it has placed an order with the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways.

We are now at a point where we can begin to offer a greater variety of services and we are delighted to announce that we will be introducing 3 new experiences in July!

We have taken the opportunity to record the Reminiscences of two Ffestiniog Railway pioneers without whom the railway would not exist as it does today.

In line with the latest update to guidelines, we’re very pleased to confirm that Spooner’s Bar will be ‘open for business’ again from Monday 17th May.

Much as we are all looking forward to resuming train services in a couple of weeks time, we have had to make a considered decision on whether to hold any major events this year.

Having only recently announced that we are resuming services in May, we now have some even better news to share…

It’s time to look onwards and upwards as we continue to form plans for our 2021 services.

We are pleased to announce that we have several new job opportunities available at the Railway.

This year the Snowdonian will run on July 24th and 25th, with the Welsh Highland Railway leg taking place on the Saturday, and the Ffestiniog leg on the Sunday.

Our annual Rail Ale event will not be taking place this year as we continue to adhere to Welsh Government regulations.

Our new National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) – Interpretation and Boston Lodge Project website will be the principal hub for all our project information, activities and updates.

Paul Lewin has produced a briefing video which provides useful detail on the various aspects of the project.

Caernarfon Station and our First Class Pullman carriages have been shortlisted by the British Guild of Travel Writers for the award for ‘Best UK & Ireland Tourism Project’ in the ‘BGTW International Tourism Awards 2020’.
