The history of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways is a long and complex tale – The company was established by an act of parliament in 1832, and has clearly undergone considerable change since King William IV put his name on that historic document. The railway that we know and love today is here largely because of the huge efforts of the pioneers who strove to preserve it, and the volunteers who help to keep it running.

We hope you’ll enjoy learning about our history and heritage, and the work we’re doing to preserve the railway for future generations.
