No trip to the railway is complete without a visit to Spooner’s in Harbour Station, Porthmadog.

Our excellent café opens early so why not visit for a hearty full breakfast before starting your day or choose your own combination from an extensive selection, all individually priced. If you are looking for a tasty lunch we serve a variety of light meals, sandwiches, pies and snacks or take a look at our daily specials board. All food is also available in takeaway boxes, so why not grab something to take on your train journey.

Teas, coffees, cold drinks and a selection of homemade cakes and snacks are available throughout the day.

Our CAMRA award-winning bar offers a wide choice of real ales on tap twelve months of the year, draught beers, bottled wines and a varied selection of malt whiskies including Wales’ very own Penderyn. We have an excellent variety of beers from small independent breweries, including Porthmadog’s own Purple Moose Brewery together with consistent beer quality and competitive pricing – so come and try a pint of something you’ve never had before!

Caffi De Winton

Caffi De Winton, with its mezzanine floor looking out towards Caernarfon’s famous castle, is an important part of the new terminus station building for the Welsh Highland Railway. The café offers a range of tasty light snacks and refreshments, freshly prepared and using many locally sourced ingredients.

Welsh Breakfasts are served between 0900 and 1130 with several options including the large ‘Garratt’ breakfast and a vegetarian ‘Watkin’ Breakfast. All meats are provided by local award winning butcher, O.G.Owen & Son.

Freshly prepared light bites are available between 0900 and 1500 with tasty homemade cakes on sale throughout the day.

The café is open between 0900 and 1700 daily. Dogs are not able to go into the café itself but there is extra seating in the station’s event space with plenty of room for dogs. The lower floor of Caffi De Winton is fully accessible and dietary requirements can be catered for. Assistance dogs are welcome in the café.

Tan-y-Bwlch Station

Tan-y-Bwlch Station Tearoom is open daily from April until October, plus school holiday periods such a Christmas week and February half term. Otherwise, between November and March it is open from Thursday to Sun each week, apart from a short period in January.

A varied selection of freshly cooked hot and cold light lunches and snacks are served; including soup, paninis, jacket potatoes and a selection of sweet treats. Treat yourself to morning coffee of afternoon tea together with a tasty freshly baked cake. Tan-y-Bwlch is also fully licensed and sells a variety of local bottled beers and ciders, or treat yourself to a bottle of prosecco or a glass of wine whilst enjoying the views over the Vale of Ffestiniog.

Tan-y-Bwlch station is set amidst beautiful woodland countryside. You can sit indoors, or outside, either under the canopy or at picnic tables overlooking the station and valley. Parents can relax whilst their children let off steam in the enclosed play area.

There is free parking at the station and there is gently ramped access to the tearoom. The station has toilets which include baby changing and an accessible toilet situated right behind the tearoom. There is a small gift shop are inside tearoom that sells souvenirs. There are other woodland car parks in the area with foot paths and trails to the station.

If you want to explore further there are plenty of walks starting at Tan-y-Bwlch, including a family friendly nature trail to Llyn Mair (the nearby lake) where you can rest, feed the ducks and take in the scenery. Why not take a picnic lunch, chosen from the tea room menu, down to the picnic area beside the lake? Our staff will be happy to pop it in a little bag for you.
