Enhance your journey on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways with a range of on-train catering options, tailored to each service and class of travel.
On the Welsh Highland Railway (WHR), Gold Class passengers aboard the ‘Snowdonia Star’ (WHR) and ‘The Harbourmaster’ (WHR) enjoy at-seat waiter service. A traditional Welsh Tea is available, alongside an upgraded Welsh slate cheeseboard featuring a selection of Welsh cheeses, artisan crackers and pickle. The Eryri Afternoon Tea—complete with a three-tier selection of Welsh cakes and cheeses—can be pre-booked online. In Standard Class, a convenient at-seat trolley service offers light refreshments, including a Welsh Tea option, while pre-bookable hampers are also available on these services. The ‘Gelert Explorer’ (WHR) provides a similar experience, with waiter service in Gold Class and a trolley service in Standard Class, both offering Welsh Tea and light refreshments. Meanwhile, the ‘Whistling Dragon’ (WHR) features a snack bar serving hot and cold drinks alongside a small selection of snacks.
On the Ffestiniog Railway (FR), Gold Class passengers travelling on the ‘Mountain Spirit’ (FR) and ‘The Quarryman’ (FR) benefit from at-seat waiter service and a Welsh Tea option. Standard Class passengers can purchase refreshments at Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog stations before boarding, as no on-train catering is available in this class. Pre-bookable picnic hampers, lunchboxes and afternoon tea boxes—featuring locally sourced Welsh produce and catering to a variety of dietary requirements—are also available.
Some services, including ‘The Aberglaslyn’ (WHR) and the ‘Woodland Wonderer’ (FR), do not offer onboard catering; passengers can purchase refreshments at the station before departure.
