Contract awarded for Cob widening project

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been awarded the contract for the first phase of the major alterations to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway's station at Porthmadog.

The Snowdonian rides again...
Last year's Snowdonian 80 mile round trip over the full length of the F&WHR was so successful that we're doing it all again. And, as last year, all the profits go to the Ffestiniog Railway and the Festiniog Railway Trust, to be put towards the Sustainable Railway Phase 5 Appeal. Last year around £25,000 was raised.

New 2012 Timetables are here!
The full daily service on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways resumes on March 24th after the Winter break. Major changes include all Welsh Highland trains running into Porthmadog for the first time.

Prince 2013
Prince is the oldest steam locomotive the Ffestiniog Railway has that is capable of working. It has been a great ambassador for the FR for the last 15 months at Highley but there are a series of important anniversaries coming up that highlight the importance of returning it to service.

WHR and WHHR track gangs work together
Over the weekend of 11-12 December, a combined team of volunteers from the WHR Rest of the World Gang and the WHHR set about removing the temporary track installed at Pen y Mount and replacing it with full length rails.

Santas Stroll right in to Spooner’s
The streets of Porthmadog were treated to a burst of colour on Saturday 3rd December as twenty-six Santas went for a stroll through town to raise money for Gwynedd Hospice, strolling into a busy Spooner’s at their journey’s end.

First WHHR loco travels over Porthmadog Cross Town Link
On Sunday 13th November steam locomotive Gertrude became the first Gelert's Farm-based locomotive to travel over F&WHR metals from Pen y Mount Junction to the Cob as she travelled over Britannia Bridge en route from Gelert's Farm to Boston Lodge.

Fourth Lord begins to take shape
Work on ex-Penrhyn Quarry Hunslet Hugh Napier's boiler has stepped up a gear as Boston Lodge engineers begin the assembly of the boiler, firebox and smokebox of the 107 year-old loco, owned by the National Trust.
