Signal Engineers visit the WHR...
Eighty members of the Institute of Railway Signal Engineers met in Caernarfon before travelling over the WHR to Porthmadog where they were given a guided tour of the Cae Pawb Network Rail flat crossing and witnessed a demonstration of the catch points and signals by operating company staff.

The Snowdonian – April 2nd – Latest News!
On April 2nd 2011 as a celebration of the completion of the WHR, we are running a VERY special train from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog, and then to Caernarfon and back to Porthmadog.

Locals flock to ride the Welsh Highland
The special offer for local residents to experience the final section of the Welsh Highland saw crowds at Porthmadog Harbour Station as people queued to take advantage of the special £1.50 fares on offer.

Ride Snowdonia's newest railway for £1.50!

Residents of Porthmadog, Tremadog, Minffordd and Penrhyn can try out the final section of the Welsh Highland Railway before it opens officially on April 20th, giving passengers the chance to experience a ride across Britannia Bridge and through the streets of Porthmadog for the first time in more than 70 years.

Britannia Bridge crossing tests
This week saw an independent Road Safety Audit of the Britannia Bridge crossing carried out by Arup Consulting and attended by the North Wales Trunk Road Agency and Gwynedd Police.

First trains run from Caernarfon to Porthmadog

Saturday October 30th saw the first trains ever to run from Caernarfon to Porthmadog Harbour Station. (The original Welsh Highland never achieved the final three mile link from Dinas Junction to Caernarfon).

K1's 100th Birthday Celebration…

The Festiniog Railway Company and the Welsh Highland Railway Society will be taking the historic Tasmanian Garratt locomotive ‘K1’ to Manchester in August 2009 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the construction of this locomotive.

NG/G16 Garratt No.109 purchased for service on Welsh Highland Railway by Peter Waterman Trust
The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways are pleased to announce that the Peter Waterman Trust has agreed to purchase NG/G16 Beyer Garratt locomotive No.109 from the Exmoor Steam Centre.
