Bus replacement rail service
In what is believed to be another world first for the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland, the railway today operated a bus replacement rail service...

The Ffestiniog Railway reacted quickly to the flooding affecting many parts of North Wales on Tuesday September 6th.

The regular bus link between Porthmadog and Pont Croesor was unable to run due to the roads being underwater. Undaunted, the railway, which dates back to 1832, put on a rail replacement bus service - possibly the first time a train has ever been used as an emergency bus replacement...

Picture shows diesel locomotive Criccieth Castle with the shuttle as it prepares to leave Porthmadog. Note the high water level on the landward side of The Cob.
