June 21st-23rd : WHR : Past, Present & Future

Join us for a very special weekend celebrating the rich heritage of the Welsh Highland Railway - formed in 1922 and which (in 1923) completed the two-foot gauge rail link between the Ffestiniog Railway in Porthmadog and the former North Wales Narrow Gauge Railway line between Dinas and Rhyd Ddu.

Pineapple

The weekend will feature a varied timetable of historic trains, including locomotives and carriages that worked on the railway prior to its closure in 1937 - most notably, Hunslet 2-6-2T ‘Russell’, the sole surviving locomotive built for the original line.

Book online, or download our Booking Form for details of ticket choices.

Welsh Highland Heritage Railway

The WHHR will be running a two-train service during the event - using resident 'Gelert' on WHHR stock, plus 'Hugh Napier' and 'Britomart' on FR Bug-Boxes. The 7¼" gauge railway will be running, featuring a trio of visiting locomotives. The 'Engine Sheds' museum and display area will also be open over the weekend.

Please Note: Gelert's Farm and Pen-y-Mount Halt can only be reached by train - there is no foot or road access permitted at these locations.

Boston Lodge Works

Boston Lodge Works will be open between 10:30 and 15:30 on Saturday and Sunday to event ticket holders. Displays will include Kerr Stuart '4415', 'Welsh Pony', 'James Spooner' and WHR Observation Carr. 2152 - plus information on the background and progress of the Boston Lodge Heritage / Development projects.

Please Note: Ffestiniog Railway service trains will NOT stop at Boston Lodge Halt on Sat. or Sunday. Access will ONLY be available by event shuttle trains - there is no foot or road access permitted.

Miscellania

We are hoping to provide a 'park and ride' facility on the outskirts of Porthmadog, with transfer to and from the railway by vintage bus. Food and Refreshments will be available from Spooner's at Harbour Station and from the Russell Tea Room at the WHHR's main station. A marquee will be erected at Beddgelert Station to house stalls, information stands and refreshments. Accessibility is extremely limited with heritage stock, so - regretfully - there will be no wheelchair access to Boston Lodge, Pen-y-Mount Halt or on event trains.

All event tickets must be purchased in advance or from a booking office as event train guards will not have ticket machines.
