Welsh Highland Railway – Past, Present and Future: Another Visitor Confirmed!
Following on from our hugely successful ‘Hunslet 125’ event last June, when examples of Hunslet locomotives came to North Wales from across the United Kingdom to star alongside our resident fleet, we are once again aiming to make June a special month in the 2019 calendar.

‘Celebrating our Heritage at London King’s Cross’ : February 16th – 24th 2019
183 years ago, in a remote corner of North Wales, the Ffestiniog Railway opened for business. The railway was initially used to carry slate from the quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog to the sea at Porthmadog, where it would be loaded on to ships which sailed all over the world.

The one you’ve been waiting for – Russell returns to the Welsh Highland Railway!
Members of the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog, working with colleagues from the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway are pleased to announce the only surviving Welsh Highland Railway steam locomotive, ‘Russell’, built by the Hunslet Engine Company in 1906 will be running on a section of the original Welsh Highland Railway in 2019!

Festiniog Railway Company to unveil War Memorial at Tan y Bwlch Station
In common with many other organisations, the Ffestiniog Railway Company has been anxious to learn more about the contribution that its employees made to the 1914-1918 War.

Reduced access at Caernarfon Station - Wednesday 29th August – Tuesday 4th September
Construction work on our new Booking Office at Caernarfon Station is nearing completion. However, between Wednesday 29th August and Tuesday 4th September, due to essential civil engineering works, reduced access will be in operation at Caernarfon Station.

Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways steam into Shrewsbury
The Shrewsbury Flower Show – claimed to be the world’s longest-running flower show - takes place on the 10th & 11th August this year and joining in the celebrations will be a steam locomotive nearly as old.
