Bridging the gap
Contractors spent Monday February 7th carefully positioning the new bridge at Minffordd which will carry the Ffestiniog Railway main line over the new Porthmadog Bypass.

The bridge was assembled on site and after the concrete deck  had been cast, the entire structure was slid sideways on massive steel supports using jacks.

Now the bridge is in its final position, Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland engineers can begin the task of ballasting and relaying the track and reconnecting signalling and telecommunications equipment prior to the scheduled resumption of train services to Blaenau Ffestiniog on March 2nd.

The new bridge has been designed to provide sufficient room for extending the double track section in Minffordd Station allowing its use by longer trains.
