An old friend returns

The loco arrives at Harbour Station in 1957
Statfold Barn's 0-6-0 Peckett saddle tank, Harrogate, built for use at Harrogate Gas Works in 1944, will be running shuttle services between Tanygrisiau and Blaenau Ffestiniog over the weekend.

It will also appear in a recreation of a scene taken at Boston Lodge in 1987 when it was taken up the line for gauging trials by the Alco, Mountaineer. In 2012, the tables will be turned, as it will be the Peckett in steam.

The loco was originally acquired by the FR in 1957 as a potential mainline loco. It was in need of a significant rebuild before it would be suitable. After some tests, it was finally concluded that the loco would not be suitable and in 1987 it was eventually sold.

The loco's official name was to be Volunteer, but it was never formally named and carried no nameplates.

It was eventually restored to running order on the the Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway, but proved to be unsuitable for their line and was sold. It now resides on the privately owned Statfold Barn Railway, near Tamworth.
