This week saw an independent Road Safety Audit of the Britannia Bridge crossing carried out by Arup Consulting and attended by the North Wales Trunk Road Agency and Gwynedd Police.

Ffestiniog Railway director Mike Hart was invited to Buckingham Palace last week to receive the Order of the British Empire from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on Friday 19th November.

First trains run from Caernarfon to Porthmadog

Saturday October 30th saw the first trains ever to run from Caernarfon to Porthmadog Harbour Station. (The original Welsh Highland never achieved the final three mile link from Dinas Junction to Caernarfon).

Heritage Factoid No.11 - The Ffestiniog pioneered passenger comfort and safety
When the first railways opened, passenger carriages were based on the designs of road vehicles. Inevitably this involved them only having four wheels, and consequently the length of the carriages was limited, and they rode very roughly on the track of that time.

Boston Lodge Works to build a third coach for the WLLR
Further co-operation between two of the 'Great Little Trains of Wales', has seen the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway award a contract for the building of a further replica 'Pickering' carriage to the Ffestiniog Railway.

Engineering Course 'first' for Ffestiniog Railway…
Four students from Year 10, Ysgol Eifionydd, Porthmadog, have just completed the first year of a two-year course in engineering jointly run by the school and the Ffestiniog Railway's Boston Lodge Engineering Works.
