Buildings & Facilities Manager

The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways has a vacancy for a Buildings & Facilities Manager responsible for managing the maintenance and repair of the buildings and facilities on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways through the efficient and cost effective use of staff, volunteers and contractors. A significant part of the role will be to create a positive environment for volunteers to work in.

Permanent vacancy from October 2017
Rate of pay: Circa £25,000 - £27,000, dependant on relevant experience
Hours: 40 hours per week, occasional weekend working may be required to support volunteer working. Out of hours attendance maybe required on an ad-hoc basis to attend to fault calls on the company's facilities.

Key Duties:
• Manage, plan and undertake the maintenance, repair of railway buildings and facilities
• Encourage and proactively manage volunteer input. Liaise with local colleges to maximise work experience opportunities
• Manage the scheduled maintenance and servicing of gas, oil, electrical, water, sewage and fire control installations and organise repairs as necessary
• Produce and monitor an annual cost budget and action out-turns as necessary
• Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and relevant Building Regulations
• Ensure that all the staff engaged in the work of the department are properly trained, supervised and competent
• Manage access to maintenance of plant and equipment allocated to the Department
• Manage the process of continuous safety improvement to reduce the potential for personal accident and injury
• Ensure the proper supervision of construction related contractors

Core Skills:
• Educated to a level of at least good GCSE with passes in Mathematics and English
• Vocational qualifications in a building trade
• Proven experience and detailed knowledge of general construction skills
• Knowledge of current building regulations
• Knowledge of current Health and Safety Regulations
• IT literate
• Effective leadership skills
• Basic commercial skills
• Full Driving Licence
• Ability to speak Welsh an advantage
