The perils of ice...

Some of you may be wondering why we run inspection trains prior to any service trains during periods of bad weather. Essentially, our staff must ensure that the line is free of obstructions before passenger trains are allowed to run.

This week we've encountered exeptionally bad conditions on both railways. These photos, taken in the tunnels on the Welsh Highland Railway earlier this week might go some way to explaining why we were forced to terminate trains at Beddgelert!

Obviously we try to run all scheduled services, and we regret any inconvenience or disappointment that you might suffer due to trains being cancelled, but rest assured we have a dedicated team of people working very hard to keep things running and more importantly running safely.
