Trailffest 2016

On Saturday 24th September, the 3rd Trailffest half marathon was held in Porthmadog.

The day dawned with a covering of cloud and very strong winds which would prove to be an extra challenge for the runners on what is already a very challenging route.

The trail running half marathon starts at the Lakeside Cafe in Tanygrisiau and follows the FR on footpaths all the way down to the finish on the platform at Harbour Station.

With 159 starters from all over the UK taking part, the race is growing in popularity every year and is organised as a charity event to raise money for various local charities.

The half marathon is supported by local companies and organisations and this year has raised over £2,500. The organisers gave special thanks to the Ffestiniog Railway, Mŵs Piws, Bwyty Hebog, Antur 'Stiniog, RUN.cyb, Travis Perkins, Bodywyrcs and Troll for their continued support.

The top three in this years event were all Welsh International runners, Matthew Roberts taking the win in a course record time of 1.31.26,Tom Roberts of Meirionnydd Running Club was second in 1.35.30 and Tim Davies of Maldwyn Harriers (3 time winner of the Snowdon Race) was third in a time of 1.39.30.

The winner in the women's race was also a Welsh International runner and very popular local runner Sian Williams of Rhedwyr Hebog in a time of 1.55.52.Katie Cole was in second position with a time of 1.58.50 (and then did post race massage for the runners!) and Hazel Davies of Emlyn Flyers (F60) came in a brilliant 3rd place with a time 2.10.16.
