First of all is Peter Johnson’s new book – The 40 Mile Railway. Anyone who loves Snowdonia will enjoy this book, not just the railway enthusiast. Restoration of the 25-mile Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon to Porthmadog has, combined with the Ffestiniog Railway’s historic route from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog, created one of the great railway journeys of the world. Peter Johnson has brought together over 250 illustrations from many different sources to describe a journey from Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog that also looks over the fence at the hidden world of villages, remote farms, hamlets and relics of the past that are passed by the trains. Take a journey over the 40-mile railway, discover the secrets of its route and savour its scenic wonders in this 160-page hardback book published by the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. At £30 this really is exceptional value for money.
Second is the 2014 edition of the F&WHR Calendar which has twelve wonderful new pictures to illustrate the year. It comes in the usual large format and includes a posting envelope so that you can send as many as you like as gifts. We’ve held the price at £7 so that’s only just over 50p a month
The Steam 150 event is just a memory now but you can refresh yours by purchasing the 2 disk DVD set which features much of the outstanding event. We also have T-Shirts and Fleeces with the Steam 150 logo on them. On the subject of T-Shirts we also now have kids T-Shirts available in a selection of five bright colours; in sizes 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-11. They have the same design as the adult shirts which we also have fresh supplies of in both red and blue.
Coming very soon is the next installment in the popular Driver’s Eye View series – The Ffestiniog Railway. We finally had the right weather to shoot the footage which shows off the railway to its best advantage. This will be another two disc set; one for each direction of travel, so you get to see everything. The locomotive used was Merddin Emrys so a smooth journey was guaranteed. This only leaves the second section of the WHR (Rhyd Ddu to Porthmadog) to be videoed to make up the whole 40 mile railway and we plan to do this as soon as is possible.
Once we have all three two-disc sets, we will release a seven disc boxed set containing an extras disc featuring some less well known sections of the railway and some other delights; however for those who have purchased the sets as they become available we will also sell the extras disk with the slip case so that a complete boxed set can be created.
All of these items and many more are will be available from our web shop at www.festshop.co.uk and of course from our shops on the railway. You can also phone the shop in Harbour Station on 01766 516034 and place your order by phone or just ask a question, we are always happy to help, but bear in mind that if we have a train load of passengers in the shop you may need to be patient and call back a short while later.
