We have a couple of new items which may be of interest which are both available in the shop and on line. First is our new DVD Fred Howes – The permanent way man. This is a documentary about Fred’s early days on the FR when he worked with Will Jones who had been employed by the company since 1922. To accompany the footage of Fred which was shot in various locations about the railway there are many archive photos and cine film excerpts which illustrate what he is talking about. It runs for about an hour and ten minutes and will be followed by a second volume which will cover the deviation years.
Also brand new is the third volume of the Nostalgia Collection’s Past and Present Ffestiniog Railway companion by John Stretton. This softback book is different from the first two volumes because many of the photographs are in colour. It makes a fascinating read and is of course available from all of our shops.
For the railway modellers amongst us we have a new 3D printed model of the Boston Lodge works shunter, Moel-y-Gest. It runs on a slightly modified KATO 11-104 chassis and Narrow Planet have also made a splendid set of name plates which includes a lovely etch of the Hunslet name badge on the radiator. It makes up into a very nice model of this important if somewhat less well known member of the F&WHR loco fleet. All three items are available in Porthmadog and from the web shop.
