During January and February, the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways traditionally operate a reduced service while essential maintenance to track and rolling stock, which cannot be carried out while normal services are in operation, is completed.
In 2012, between January 2nd and February 10th inclusive on the Welsh Highland and January 2nd and February 21st on the Ffestiniog, there will be NO public services.
The reason for this extended shutdown is to enable the first phase of the ambitious Cob widening project to be completed. This million pound project will enable us to add a second platform at Porthmadog Harbour Station in order to operate a significantly-enhanced service on both railways, with cross-platform interchange between Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland trains.
