Porthmadog Triathlon - September 4th 2011

The Porthmadog Triathlon has been organised to help celebrate the 200th anniversary of the construction of "Y Cob" by William Madocs, the founder of the town. The occasion will be very special as this is the first triathlon to be held in the Town.

Triathlons events are increasing in popularity throughout the world. Competitors challenge themselves  to undertake three different disciplines usually swimming, cycling  and running in the fastest possible time. Porthmadog are due to host their first ever event on Sunday 4th September as part of the Cob 200 celebrations.

100 competitors will take part in a sprint version of the Triathlon which involves Swimming 16 lengths, Cycling 25km and Running 5km. Entries for this exciting event are already full with competitors coming from all over the country as well as many local athletes taking part, many for the first time. The event is open to individuals and teams and several local businesses have entered a team – there is certainly a buzz around town as the competitors are training hard and the friendly rivalry has begun.

But if you’re not feeling quite that energetic, why not become involved in the event by helping out on the day as a marshal. We are looking for volunteers to guide and support competitors along the routes, with time keeping, administrating the results, refreshments and general ‘gofers’. It’s a great opportunity to be part of the event and help create a community spirit.

If marshalling does not appeal to you either why not just come along and show your support for the competitors.
