The locomotive will now enter Boston Lodge Works for a full rebuild. It is hoped that he'll be ready to enter service again next year, when we celebrate one hundred and fifty years of steam on the Ffestiniog Railway.
The Ffestiniog Railway Society are co-ordinating fundraising for this project, and donations can be sent to. Donation will be welcome, and can be sent to: Dave Charlton, FRS, Freepost NATE 1232, Haltwhistle NE49 9BR.
Prince is iconic to the preservation of the Ffestiniog Railway as the first steam locomotive to run in preservation on the railway and the mainstay of the service for the first two years, without Prince the railway would have struggled to become as successful as early as it did. In 1963 Prince became the first preserved locomotive to celebrate its centenary in regular service on its own railway.
