    John Heald

Long long time Shearings Driver, John Heald passed away on 26th June. He retired last year due to ill health. Sara, his daughter texted all the contacts in his phone because he knew so many people and she hadn't a clue where they fitted in. I am glad she did and we have kept in touch over the past few days.

John drove for Shearings for many years and previous to that, used to visit the Railway when he worked for Crosville at Llandudno Junction. He was one of the first coach drivers to use the WHR and will be remembered for his powers of persuasion in convincing his customers that first class was the way to travel. I personally will always remember him for usually managing to travel on the train he wanted to travel on rather than the train I wanted him to travel on, often engaging Roy unwittingly into the plot by phoning on my day off to ‘sort out' the booking! He came unstuck one day though because i was travelling on the same train with 84 Americans all having a sandwich lunch so he was made to carry all the lunches from the car park to the train in Blaenau as a penance! He always wanted to go down from Blaenau ‘because it fits with my story that i tell them', he insisted. He will be fondly remembered and we have lost an old friend.

His funeral is on 8th July at Mochdre crematorium at 1015 followed by a wake at Llandudno Junction community club. The family have said they would be happy to see anyone from John's long list of friends and colleagues. The collection will go towards The Oldham Owls and the UKDMFC, both being charities related to fishing and helping the disabled. If you would like to add a contribution, please get it to Porthmadog booking office and we will send it to the family.

    Tony Catchpole's Funeral
Tony Catchpole's funeral will be held at Chester Crematorium at 14.00 on Thursday 20 June 2013. Refreshments are to be at the Whitby Sports and Social Club, Ellesmere Port.

Sue Catchpole has asked that everyone attending the Crematorium continues onto the refreshments so that she can talk to them as she would prefer this to standing chatting at the Crematorium on this very sad day.

Sue has also asked me to request that everyone attending from the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway contacts me (via email please) and advises me of their presence so that I can advise her of numbers for the refreshments.

Sue has requested NO FLOWERS but donations onto the plate at the Crematorium for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Chester Crematorium, Blacon Ave, Chester CH1 5BB
Whitby Sports and Social Club, Dunkirk La, Ellesmere Port CH65 6QF
Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Gordon Ln Chester, Cheshire CH2 4DG

Please let me know by Monday 17 June at 10.00 if you are able to attend. Thank you very much indeed.

    Teams needed for charity race
Yola Craig writes: I am formerly a resident of North Wales and now reside permanently in Cyprus - my partner is in Afghan and I am the Cyprus Rep. for Pilgrimbandits Charity - a charity which aids and assists severely injured armed forces personnel who have suffered life changing catastrophic injuries (predominantly amputees) and help them restart their lives by showing them that these injuries have not halted their life .... that indeed their path in life has just altered and the fun and achievements begin.

On Sunday 22nd September, 2013 Combat Soldier are holding an event at Wepre Park, Connah's Quay - a 6km obstacle race ( a sort of Beginner's Mudder) and I am actively recruiting as many clubs, groups, organisations, people as I possibly can to enter a team in the event on behalf of Pilgrimbandits Charity. This race can be done competitively or as a fun race - depending on how people wish to approach it.

The North Wales Co-ordinator for Pilgrimbandits will be present (he is away at the moment hence writing myself) along possibly with another Rep. and a few of the lads for people to talk to, meet and discuss anything they wish to with regards to Pilgrimbandits and what we actually do.

Combat Soldier have a web page here where you can register and enter your Team details and I would be grateful if you could contact me either on here or via yola@hotmail.co.uk letting me know your Team name, number in the team and registration number and can then arrange for Pilgrimbandit Charity's sponsor forms to be sent out to you and pass on the Charity's Just Giving page set up details.

Further details of what the Charity does can be found here and if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks for your time, Yola Craig.
