Boston Lodge Open Day

Boston Lodge Works will be open today with regular shuttles from Porthmadog and Minffordd. This historic workshop is as busy as it ever was in its heyday with locomotives and carriages still being built and restored on site. Not usually open to the public, this is a rare opportunity for a look behind the scenes and is included in the price of a rover ticket.

The carriage workshops will be open to showcase various projects including the restoration of a Glasgow Tram and a replica Sentry Bug Box. There will also be a slate waggon restoration project display by the young people who have been working on it.

Fundraising for vintage locomotive , ‘Welsh Pony’, is going well so the time has come to strip her down to do a detailed survey of the work required. You can watch ‘Welsh Pony’ being carefully dismantled in erecting shop between1000 – 1600.

Much interest has also been expressed in the proposed restoration of Alco Cooke 'Mountaineer'. A stalwart of FR trains in the 1970’s, she has been out of service for many years but will be making a rare appearance in the works yard.
